Guest No. 1

Hey everyone,
So I hope you are all remembering that you are welcome to come visit me at any point...and I mean that! If you can find a cheap plane ticket (just keep on checking) than please come join me for a few days...imagine, all you have to do is get here, and I'll take care of the rest! Michael Rhodes has already taken advantage of my offer!

This past Wednesday through Friday morning I had my first guest, Rhodes. We had an awesome time just exploring Cambridge, from the colleges, to the pubs, to the gardens. When Rhodes got in on Wednesday, we talked for a bit, but pretty quickly we were off. Because it was Michael's first day in Europe, we made a quick stop at the library to check e-mail and then spent the rest of the day pretty much doing nothing but eating and talking on Jesus Green (sort of a park nearby)--not a bad day if you ask me! But as the evening came to a close, jet lag was catching up to us, so I dropped off Michael at my brother's house for a good night's rest, and I went on home to my own flat.
In the morning we took advantage of our student status and walked through several of the colleges. King's is always breathtakingly beautiful, but it was really wonderful to go to the Clare's College Fellow's Garden, which was in full bloom and absolutely gorgeous!
Now as you can imagine, since Rhodes and I are both English majors, we did have to take detour to go see one of the many college libraries here, so we went to Trinity, which is my personal favorite. Here you can find displays of the earliest known edition of a Shakespearean play, Newton's original sketch to explain gravity, AA Milne's handwritten drafts for
Whinnie the Pooh, as well as a eyewitness account of the A-bomb testing (which is ironically a quite beautiful description of it). This is only a just a taste of all the things that Rhodes and I did while he was here, but now he's off to Wales and then after that back to Oxford where he'll be doing a course on Shakespeare, and I have to get going as well. Don't forget...you get the ticket here, and I'll take care of the rest!
